I have some old Easton Buckeye 400s. I shoot a 45 lbs Gamemaster. How would you set them up? I was thinking about the Vibrake inserts and nocks with 5" feathers and a 125 grain broadhead... suggestions? How long?

what draw lengh? if it's 45lbs @ 28 in and you cutting them @ 29 in
a 29 in arrow vibrake inserts and nocks 5" feathers 125 grain broad head, "i see no problems."
i think i would go with 140 or 145 gr BH, but thats just me.

Are you more partial to carbon, aluminum or cedar for your recurve?

Here is a question. I just threw on the 55 lbs pair of limbs on my bow. How much will that throw off the spine on my arrow? I am shooting some 2114 Super Slams right now. 38 gr insert 125 grain tip. they fly great so far out of the 55 lbs limbs as well as the 45 limbs. do you think the buckeye's will handle any different. I am getting them fletched now with some 5" feathers.
Also do you have to be as critical of tuning your broadheads as you do for a compound? Would you shoot a mechnical? Sorry 20 questions. But I think I am getting pretty serious about trying to poke a doe if I get a good oppurtunity at one.

wont shoot cedar to light (my opinion) but if I'm shooting traditional i Will go all the way and shoot wood i have tried several types of wood from ash, poplar, maple to name a few but i found that red oak is my favorite type of wood

shooting 2114 out of the 55lbs limbs will throw the spine off, i would stay in the 400 deflection (spine) area if you are going to use the 55lbs limbs. for the super slams i would go with a 2216 10.5 grains per inch. ( just a thought) the 400 range (spine) will give u 8 to 9 grains per inch yes tuning your broad heads just like you would a compound, make for good arrow flight. I'm going to try mechanicals this year

Well all right then. My mechanicals are only 100 grains so it may shoot a bit flatter. However the insert is a bit heavy so maybe that will allow me to get away with the lighter tip. I'll get to flippin and see how those hold up. I'd imagine a bit more speed by shooting the carbon rather than the log aluminum can help with some distance and penetration?

then you defiantly would not want to see what i shoot out of my 56 lbs recurve. {the grains of my woods the total arrow weight} the log (that most people call it) that i will be shooting out of my recurve this year 750 to 770 grains. with that i get 180 feet per second out of my wapiti take down Unfair, you've seen the pictures of the buck i shoot in 08. right? ( if not i'll send you a pic) it was ten yards, and when i hit it, it drooped in tis tracks did not go anywhere

I did see your buck. Congratulations. I am a bit envious. i have dreams of hitting a doe a bit shallow dream than taking a nice 4x4. that is truly a monster arrow. I tried shooting some heavier arrows out of my recurve but don't think I had the spine quite right. I wanted to play with the vibrake inserts and nocks that is why I went with the Buckeye's. The other option I had was set up a Beman Classic (wood grain) 400 put in the 75 grain brass HIT inserts than a 5" feather. I'd probably still use a 100 grain tip giving me a total of 175gr. in the front and a likely overall total around 500ish grains. So my lack of hanging a tag has my attention a bit heavy on my Alphamax at the moment. but if things don't happen quick for me this year. I am Not at all opposed to sit on a nice and tight waterhole with a recurve in a Hunter's choice area. If that is the case and if one comes in for a drink. Brown, its down!!.
