You probably could.  If the weight of the arrow is the same you should get the same POI.

It would cost me double to buy new arrows.  If I got new arrows the wife would have to get some also.   Roll Eyes

DXT...Hiking with a hip quiver is not a problem.  The great thing is the weight is on the hip not on the bow.  Weight distribution on the bow does not change as you take arrows out.  Not all hip quivers are created equal.

I spend much more time shooting 3-d than hunting, so I setup my system to take advantage of the 3-d.  A friend of mine went to the fat boys a couple of months ago.  The arrows are an easy target, but the pin nocks have saved his bacon several times.  The size difference did make a small difference on line shots once in a while.  Not worth the extra cost for the little gain if you ask me.  Spots is another story.

What kind of hip quivers should I stay away from? What kind should I steer towards?

DXT...

That is something you will have to determine.  Your likes and dislikes are different than mine.  Do some investigating and see what appeals to you, then ask questions of people if you want their opinion.  But remember... it is their opinion.... not yours... in the end, it is you that has to be satisfied.
(hows that for skating around your question)

I just love how you danced around that one... I have a less generalized question for you. Let's see how you figure out how to beat around the bush this time...

You ready?

What kind of hip quiver do you have?

I have two types of hip quiver.  One for target and one for hunting.  Target is an Easton Field Quiver.  The hunting one is Hoyt's camo field quiver.  I was impressed with the Hoyt quiver because it has a buckle that holds back your arrows, and keeps them from rattling and banging together.  Don't know if I am brave enough to hunt with it...  But I would really like to to keep the weight off of the bow.

since this worked, lets try a couple of more.  I don't know who makes these.  The stamp on the leather says "Idaho Leather".  I think they are custom made for Jakes Archery as they are the only place I have seen them.  They don't seem to have them very often.

Here is a picture of my wifes and my modified field quiver.  Mine is a one of a kind.  It used to look like my wifes.  The last one is my first attempt.  It was my first deer kill.  I used a home tanning solution and then designed the quiver.  I have used this one for many many years.  (not for hunting though, just indoor shooting and outdoor 3-d)

my 2 cents on quivers,,   i just picked up a quiver last week made by a company called "tight spot" it is a 5 arrow quiver that was a quick detach feature that mounts to your sight. their whole concept is to keep the quiver as close to the bow as possible to reduce the weight stickin way away from the riser. it sets so close that i was a little worried about it hitting the thumb tab on my QAD rest but i was able to over come that issue. i read on archerytalk the it will not clear some rests but other than that it got good reveiws. i have not shot with it yet so we will see.

also what do you think of those stabilizers (like fuse) that stick  way out to the left to compensate for the quiver on the right? are they good or a gimic?

My experience is depends on the person or the bow..  I shot a sidekick (Fuse) for 2 years.  I went shoot a v-bar bracket now.  I shot a bit of freestyle and I like putting weight out the side. But Not too much. I know alot of people who swear by it.  I like to tone it down a little bit.  so i shoot a fuse Axium out the front with an Easton v-bar bracket and than throw a little weight out the side to give me the proper balance.  I still like the Sidekick. My wife and half of my family shoots one.  I like to tinker too much to stick with just one for now.

The diameter of your shaft will affect its overall speed.  That is why Axis arrows are quicker than ICS Hunters. Slimmer diameter creates less drag. (aerodynamics) I wouldn't have a problem lobbing a Fatboy 60+ yards but i would prefer indoor, for wind issues.  it will get you close.  Alot of people I know have two sights.  slap one on for Fatboy's, another to hunt.  Keep your rest, and your setup the same, but by switching your sight based on the arrow you want to shoot.  Who cares if you switch. Huh
